About 5 miles north of Mammoth Lakes, there's the June Lake loop. Hitting the southern portion (the northern area had a partial closure due to Covid-19 restrictions), I made a short scramble (literally) up Fern lake to see how far I could get, hoping to get to and over the summit, well over 1000' up, before I had to turn around, to no avail. Again, this time of the year, too much snow at the upper elevations to cross, on short time. But that first mile is pretty intense, and steep. Some future incredible hikes here. Waterfalls literally drop down hundreds of feet from the top and in the middle of mountains, sometimes from the sides of them. A multitude of lakes behind the mountain peaks and deep in the eastern Sierra mountains.
This blog chronicles my travels - mostly around my home state of California - but on rare occasions, other areas as well. Hopefully, these photos capture the majesty, grandeur, and breathtaking beauty of the landscapes I’ve witnessed firsthand on these trips over the last few years. Luckily, for me, it really doesn’t take much to heed the call of nature, to pull me from the comforts of home and to prepare for another grand adventure. So buckle up, plug in and strap in - we’re going for a ride.

Length: 3 miles (I only made it in about 1) / Elevation gain: 1,564 (I went up about 1,000') /
Highest Elevation Point: 8,996'.
